FitTick – Program

Respirator Fit Testing

Best practice for any Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is to ensure the right fit. Fit testing of respirators (RPE Respiratory Protective Equipment) and ear plugs is mandatory on a number of sites and across industries.
Australian Standards AS/NZ 1715:2009 Selection use and maintenance of respiratory protective equipment, recognise this and fit testing is included. Section 2 of the Standard calls for a Respiratory Protection Program and the Fit Tick program builds and supports compliance.

Fit test booking is available online

Respirator Fit Testing PPE/RPE

FitTick provides onsite and in-house respirator and mask fit testing using either our purpose-built mobile testing booth, dedicated testing spaces in our local offices, or pop-up testing facilities which can be set up Australia-wide within 24 hours.

Why is RPE Fit testing necessary?

RPE fit testing is recommended in the Australian Standards (AS/NZ 1715:2009 ) but it also helps to ensure workers are safe and organisational occupational health and safety (OHS) risks are reduced.

Ideally, fit testing should form part of your pre-employment or onboarding process to produce current test results for your employee file.

Ongoing Fit Testing ensures that the RPE provided by the PCBU is the right type and size, is functional and maintained well. It also ensures that PPE is used and adjusted to produce a proper seal between the respirator and the face of the wearer.

Frequently asked Questions

Some of the most frequently asked questions about respirator fit testing.

What is a Respirator Fit Test?

An RPE fit test assesses if a respirator (for example a mask) is fitted properly to the wearer’s face. It ensures that the RPE  produces a proper seal between the respirator and the face of the wearer.

How often are RPE Fit Tests required?

A Respirator Fit Test should be conducted at least every 2 years or when new equipment is handed out to the wearer.

Can you fail a Mask Fit Test?

Yes! We recommend to read thorugh the details of our FitTesting Flyer and taking the test clean shaved.  Old or not well-maintained respirators might also not provide adequate protection anymore.

Do I bring my own mask?

Yes, please. If you can't bring your own mask, we have almost all types and brands available. Please let us know upfront which respirator you need to be tested with. Thanks.

Who gets the test results?

Each test conducted comes with a computer print out of the test results. On completion of the respiratory fit test, a copy is sent to the employer so it can be kept on their employment file.
