Importation of products that contain asbestos

What value do you place on your brand and reputation.
Time and time again we hear stories from importers and suppliers of products arriving in from overseas that contain asbestos.  They have been advised that they don’t when importers make a purchase, but at the wharf, Border Protection can requests the products be tested.
Other countries don’t have the same regulations and compliance requirements we have across Australia.  This being the case any importation of products that contain asbestos is at the sole risk of the importers.  Border Protection have become more stringent with their container audits. Asbestos containing materials have been found in building products, crayons, and imported vehicles.
Peter Tighe of the Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency … “with more and more products being imported to Australia rather than being manufactured here ….What we really have here is the tip of the iceberg”.
Once your products reach the wharf in Australia they are your responsibility and the cost to decontaminate or bury the waste product is very expensive.  Its best to understand what you are bringing in to Australia before it you place your order with  the production plant.  There really is no second chance.
The Minister for Employment , Minister for Women and the Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Public Service, Senator the Honourable Michaelia Cash, has granted Health Safety Environment Australia an asbestos import licence for small samples to be brought into the county and tested here in Australia under the local regulations and standards at our own NATA Accredited Laboratory.  Our Accredited  and Licenced Asbestos Assessors are visiting production plants to audit both the production process and the facilities across Asia to be sure at the start of your transaction with the manufacturers there will not be concern with Asbestos Containing Materials.

Your brand and reputation are important and they are key to your continued success.  Calling on an our auditors and product investigators before anything leaves the processing facility is a small price to pay to keep you brand in the spotlight for all the very best reasons.
